The Lehigh Valley is a picturesque region that’s home to some of Pennsylvania’s most interesting covered bridges. Seven of these historic gems still exist presently, and they are the focus of a self-guided tour offered by Discover Lehigh Valley. You can take the 50-mile tour, or you can visit just one or two of these iconic structures in the South Whitehall and North Whitehall townships. You’ll be glad you read this!

You’ll find a number of covered bridges in this part of the Valley, including Bogert’s Bridge, which was built in 1841 (pedestrian traffic only). This historic wooden bridge has narrow horizontal plank siding and a traditional gable roof. It’s a lovely spot for taking engagement photos or for strolling in the fall. Located in the city of Allentown, Bogert’s Bridge is a must-see for anyone interested in learning more about Lehigh Valley history.

Another of the Valley’s covered bridges is Wehr’s Covered Bridge, which was constructed in 1841. It features a Burr arch truss design and spans over Jordan Creek. Originally, the bridge was used to transport water pipes to nearby farms. It was saved from destruction by local citizens, and now it is one of the Valley’s most unique and beautiful covered bridges.

Next on the tour is Manasses Guth Bridge, which was built in 1858 and rebuilt in 1882. This historic wooden bridge features a Burr arch-truss and a 108-foot walk. It’s a great spot for taking in the scenery of the Jordan Creek that it crosses, and is perfect for taking those memorable family pictures. Visit another area in town here.

Also in the city of Allentown is Rex’s Covered Bridge, which was built in 1848 and boasts old-fashioned vertical plank siding. The bridge stretches over the Jordan Creek and is open to pedestrian traffic only. This is a favorite stop for visitors and locals alike, and it’s a great place to take a leisurely walk and have some fun in the outdoors.

Lastly, the Kreidersville Covered Bridge is located in the village of Kreidersville and was built in 1839. It’s the oldest bridge on the tour and the only remaining covered bridge in Northampton County. The Kreidersville Carch-trudge is the host of the annual Kreidersville Covered Bridge Festival, which takes place every year in early June.

The park also has an extensive trail system that’s great for hiking and walking, as well as a fully-equipped playground. It’s also a lovely spot for picnicking, and you can host your next family reunion or birthday party at the pavilions in the park.
