Kreidersville Covered Bridge

Kreidersville Covered Bridge Park in Allentown, Pennsylvania is home to one of the oldest covered bridges in the state. It is also the only surviving covered span in Northampton County.

A covered bridge is a structure that has a roof, sides, and is covered with wood. German immigrants brought the idea of this design to the United States. This type of bridge can last longer than uncovered bridges because it can protect the wood from weather. In Pennsylvania, there are seven covered bridges that are still open to traffic.

The Manasses Guth Covered Bridge was built in 1858. After a fire, it was rebuilt in 1882. It is part of the Trexler-Lehigh County Game Preserve. Its surrounding area includes the Lehigh Valley Zoo.

Kreidersville Covered Bridge Park is a beautiful and historic site. You can enjoy it in the spring, summer, or fall. The park offers a wide variety of activities for all ages. There are baseball and football fields, volleyball courts, and an 18 hole disc golf course.

Wehr Covered Bridge

Bogert’s Covered Bridge

Located in Allentown, PA, the Bogert Covered Bridge is a historic wooden covered bridge. It was built in the mid-1800s. The bridge is part of the Lehigh Parkway.

Visitors can take in the views of this historic structure, and enjoy the tranquility of a shady crossing of Little Lehigh Creek. The bridge is open to pedestrians only.

In the 18th century, Peter Bogert bought land around the creek. He later built a stone ford in the creek’s vicinity. His family lived in the log cabin nearby. They constructed the bridge to carry horse-drawn carriages over the creek. This structure was later used by farmers and iron companies.

While most covered bridges are named after nearby residents or businesses, the Bogert’s Covered Bridge is known by its Burr truss design. It features a gable roof.

Geiger’s Covered Bridge

If you love covered bridges, you should check out the Geiger’s Covered Bridge Park. It’s the only bridge in Pennsylvania with a stepped portal design. This park is located in South Whitehall Township, northwest of Allentown.

Whether you’re looking to enjoy a picnic, take a stroll, or play disc golf, this is a great destination. You’ll find a variety of trails and beautiful views at this park.

Originally, the bridge carried a water pipe to nearby farms. Today, it’s a popular fishing spot.

There are several covered bridges in the Lehigh Valley area. The longest one is Bogert’s Covered Bridge, which crosses Little Lehigh Creek. It was built in the mid-1800s. In addition, it’s the oldest covered bridge in the area.
